Decorating your mantel for the holidays

The holidays are such an exciting time for most people however we can all get a bit consumed with decorating and feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes less is more. There are always so many ways to decorate but the easiest way to go about it is by picking a color palette first. We have created a mood-board with timeless yet elegant pieces that incorporate the traditions of the holiday season but also a modern twist.

Decorating your mantel is one of the easiest and simplest ways to elevate your decor. Sometimes people cant decorate every year but this is a simple way out. The first thing you want to start with is a garland. I find it best to mix up two kinds of different garlands to get an even more complex look. The next thing you have to figure out is how to fill up the space. You can put almost any kind of decoration and it will work, you just have to make sure the tones match one another.

We went with some nontraditional routes as far as colors and some pieces that you would expect to see. We recommend adding a stocking holder as this adds some flavor rather to just hooking the stockings. We also incorporated a nutcracker which is a must, a mix of lanterns which you can mix up with candle holders as well, a glass tree, and a brass fireplace screen. The beauty in this is that there is no wrong answer. It is important to create something that brings festivities into your home and an activity that was essentially fun to create.
