Herringbone flooring has been around for as long as I can remember. It signifies such a specific look and was initially started in the 16th century. You can find many historical places to endure this type of flooring throughout certain areas. They were mostly used in castles and homes of powerful and wealthy people. My personal favorites that include this is nonetheless the Palace of Versailles and the Palace of Fontainebleau.

Another name for herringbone flooring is also chevron flooring. Since the pattern looks like chevron people have been calling it this for years. The name originated from the bone structure of a herring fish since it resembles it so much. The Romans were the first to begin implementing it as they realized it was strong and durable. The great thing with how far we have come is that it no longer needs to be done with just wood. You can accomplish this with LVT or many other tiles if you have someone to lay them out right.

Herringbone flooring has always and will always remain a classic. If you are ever hesitant about doing it remember that. It is one of the easiest touches to elevate a space. Many people forget to consider it as an option when redoing their homes. It also does not always need to be done in a grand home. Commercial and hospitality spaces will look just as elegant. We are currently working on a commercial project where we have incorporated a herringbone design. Follow Nazeli Design on Instagram to stay tuned and see the progress!
